Terms of use

Last updated September 8, 2026

Obelisk photographs a monument, works out what it is, and talks to you about it. Using it means these few things are understood.

These terms are between you and Bautista Tancredi, an individual developer based in Argentina (“we”, “us”), and they cover the Obelisk app for iOS. By using the app you agree to them and to the privacy policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

1. It can be wrong

The identification and everything said after it come from a language model. A model is fluent whether or not it is right, so treat what you hear as a good guide rather than a source. Dates, attributions and stories are worth checking before you repeat them. Nothing in the app should be relied on for anything that matters: opening times, safety, whether a place is open to the public, or where you are.

2. What to point it at

Buildings, statues, bridges, plaques: things that stand still and belong to everyone. Obelisk is not a tool for identifying people. It is not built to be one, and it will not be turned into one. Don’t use it to photograph people who haven’t agreed to it, and don’t use it anywhere photography is not allowed.

3. Your account

You sign in with Apple, and that is the only account there is. You are responsible for the Apple ID you use and for what happens under it. If you lose access to that Apple ID you may lose access to your passport. You must be at least 13, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher.

4. Your photographs and your visits

They stay yours. Taking a photograph in the app gives us permission to store it and to send it to be identified, which is what the app does with it, and nothing else. The same goes for what you say and what is said back. Nothing you photograph is published anywhere. We use it only to run the app for you, and that permission ends when you delete the visit or your account.

You confirm you have the right to take and submit the photographs you use.

5. Membership

The app is free with a set number of scans a day. A membership lifts that ceiling and changes nothing else; there is no feature behind a wall.

  • Plans. A trip pass ($9.99 for 14 days) and a yearly membership ($29.99 a year). There is no free trial; the free scans each day are the trial. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may differ by country.
  • Billing. Both are sold and billed by Apple through your Apple ID. We never receive or store your payment details.
  • Trip pass. One payment. It lifts the ceiling for 14 days from the purchase and then ends on its own; nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. A second pass bought before the first ends starts when the first one does. It stays with your Obelisk account, so signing in on another iPhone keeps it.
  • Renewal. The yearly membership renews at the same price for another year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current year. The renewal is charged within the last 24 hours of the period.
  • Cancelling. In your Apple ID settings, under Subscriptions. Deleting the app, or deleting your account in the app, does not cancel a membership. Apple owns that switch.
  • Refunds. Handled by Apple under Apple’s policies; we cannot issue them directly.
  • Codes. We may hand out codes that lift the ceiling without a purchase. They are one use each, can’t be sold or transferred, and can be withdrawn if misused.

6. What you agree not to do

Use the app for anything unlawful. Try to get at other people’s data or around the app’s limits. Reverse engineer or interfere with the app beyond what the law allows. Resell it or its output. We can suspend or close an account that does any of these.

7. Ours

The app, its design, its name and everything in it that isn’t yours are ours. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, under the App Store’s terms, and nothing more.

8. Other people’s services

The app leans on Apple, OpenAI, Convex, Clerk, Wikipedia and OpenFreeMap. Their role is set out in the privacy policy. We are not responsible for their outages or their own acts.

9. No promises

The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. It leans on services that can go down and on a model that can go quiet, and neither is something anyone here can promise around. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from the app. Where liability can’t be excluded, it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50, whichever is more.

10. Ending it

If it stops being worth having, deleting your account in Settings is the whole of the way out. We may end access if these terms are materially broken or the law requires it. Sections 7, 9 and 11 survive.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic, and disputes go to the courts of Argentina, without prejudice to any consumer rights that apply where you live.

12. Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app afterwards means you accept the new version.
